What this site provides
Rural Calc publishes calculators and articles covering livestock feeding, land management, boating, towing, hunting and beekeeping. Everything here is general reference information, compiled from published research and cited on the page.
Estimates, not answers
Every calculator on this site produces an estimate. The underlying research describes populations and averages; your animal, vehicle, vessel or hive is a specific case that no formula can fully account for.
Where a range is shown alongside a figure, that range is not decoration. It reflects genuine variation in the published research, and the true answer for your situation may fall anywhere within it, or occasionally outside it.
Not professional advice
Nothing on this site is veterinary, medical, nutritional, engineering, legal or financial advice.
- Animal feeding and health. Consult a veterinarian or qualified equine or livestock nutritionist before making significant changes to an animal’s diet, and always before administering any medication. Feeding and dosage calculators here are reference tools and must not be used as the sole basis for treating an animal.
- Towing, load and capacity. Always follow the ratings on your vehicle, trailer, hitch and tyres, and the manufacturer’s documentation. Where our output and a manufacturer’s rating disagree, the manufacturer’s rating governs.
- Boating and marine. Capacity, anchoring and fuel calculations do not account for conditions on the day. They do not replace your own judgement, your vessel’s capacity plate, or applicable maritime regulations.
- Land and pasture. Carrying capacity varies enormously by region, soil, rainfall and management. Local extension services know your area; we do not.
Verify before you rely on it
Each calculator page shows its formula, a worked example and its sources. We publish those so you can check the reasoning rather than trust the output. For any decision involving an animal’s welfare, a safety limit, or significant expense, please do check.

Accuracy and corrections
We take accuracy seriously and describe our sourcing standard on our editorial standards page. We do not guarantee that every figure is free of error. If you find a mistake, please tell us at [email protected] and we will correct it.

Research we cite belongs to its authors and publishers. Where we quote or summarise a source we name it, and you should consult the original for the full context.
